History about Richards Lane

Welcome to Richards Lane, a quiet residential community in Newark, Delaware.

Our modern townhome community took shape in the mid-1990s, while the surrounding Newark area reflects a much deeper history connected to early settlement, local roadways, nearby creeks, and the rural landscape that shaped this part of New Castle County.

Richards Lane is located near some of Newark’s treasured natural and historic areas, including the Judge Morris Estate and White Clay Creek State Park. The Judge Morris Estate, once known as Chestnut Hill, includes a historic manor house dating to 1792 and remains part of the broader historic landscape surrounding the community.

While the Richards Lane townhomes are modern, the road itself also includes older property history. Public records identify a farmhouse-style home on Richards Lane dating to 1845, offering a reminder that this area once had a more rural character before later residential development.

Today, Richards Lane continues that sense of place as a small residential neighborhood where residents share a commitment to maintaining a clean, welcoming, and connected community.
